HOW TO STIMULATE YOUR MIND AND MAINTAIN YOUR SANITY

I always say that everything starts with the mind. It’s one thing I know that holds so much power, and influences our decisions.

Personally I think once you have control over your mind, then you can definitely get through anything. How successful you’ll be also depends on your mind, hence people with a fixed mindset always look like they’re in a box.

How you train your mind is also a huge part of your mental health because sometimes the reason for depression is the negativity we have constantly fed our mind with. Remember that what you believe, you slowly become. So here are ways you can stimulate your mind for a better, happier, and more successful life.

1. MAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF

Yes, I know you don’t have time. You gotta work because you got people to feed, but have you ever asked yourself what’ll happen to the people you take care of, if you lose your mind? Will they still survive? No matter how busy you are, I think it’s important to at least pick out one day in a month to self-meditate. Talk to yourself, be sure you’re on the right track. Become aware of some of your goals that you’ve achieved, and commend yourself. Treat yourself! You’ll never know how refreshing this is, and how energized you’ll feel afterwards.

2. STAY ACTIVE

To be honest, it’s not just okay to go to work everyday, come back, shower, eat, and sleep. Isn’t that boring? Yes it is. Sometimes do something different from your normal daily routine. You could read one chapter of a book, play games, and this is one thing I don’t joke with; especially for the fact that I’m an introvert. It’s either I read or play games because winning a game tricks my mind into believing I can do anything. You can also take a walk around your house, or check YouTube for some yoga videos, then do one or two. Just do something.

3. EAT BRAIN BOOSTING FOODS

I bet you didn’t know that there are foods that can boost your brain? I’ll write that in my next article. Foods like eggs, dark chocolates, fish, avocado, etc don’t just impact your physical health, but also your mental health. Brain foods can help you with your memory, make you focus more, and boost your energy levels—keeping you mentally strong, and mentally active.

4. KNOW YOUR PASSION AND FEED IT

Like I said in number 1, it’s okay to work, but don’t forget to do the things that make you happy too! That’s how you balance your mental strength. Your brain power is stimulated when you do the things you have passion for. So you gotta ask yourself one thing it is that you really love doing that makes you so happy. You know it? Then make sure to always do it when you can, because apart from the happiness you get from it, it boosts your creativity too which is good for your mind and brain!

5. LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY

This may sound weird, but there’s no day I do not open the dictionary or check google on something I don’t know. I could be reading a book, and come across a word I didn’t know its meaning, or I could even be reading comments. Next thing I do is to google the word or check the dictionary. The thing is when you’re constantly hungry for knowledge, you become more open-minded! Your versatility as someone who is well-informed enables you to achieve career success. Sometimes it’s not just about learning the meaning of a word, you can also read up on people you look up to, and learn one or two things about their journey. You’re trying to start a business, have you read up on it? It’s a whole lot of new things you can learn everyday that’ll open your mind to new ways of thinking. It’ll also shape you into a different person that you’ll absolutely be proud of!

6. CUT DOWN ON THE BAD HABITS

Notice how I didn’t just ask you to quit? Because I know that habits aren’t just something you give up in a day. It could take time, so slowly drop them. You could ask yourself what you addicted to. Fighting on social media? Smoking? Alcohol? Compulsive buying? This is where you need to exercise control over your mind by telling yourself that you’re in charge therefore you decide what you do, not the other way round! If you a smoker who does 5 sticks of cigar or cannabis a day, you can drop to 3 a day, and to 1, and before you know it, you totally done. Remember I said this is where you need to tell your mind that you’re in control, and you decide.

7. GET YOUR SOCIAL LIFE TOGETHER

Well this is one thing I rarely bother about. I prefer the peace and quietness I get from being all by myself, and no drama because it’s actually hard to find a person who’s mature in reasoning. These days it’s as if the older people get, the more immature they become, but then I realized it’s because most people don’t bother about developing themselves. They just live and take everyday the way they see it. I’ve met people who just assume that arguments mean end of friendship! People with mindsets like this are people I don’t ever want to have anything to do with, so I simply maintain my social life by hanging with one or two of my friends once in a while, and when I do, I find new things to write about. It’s okay to keep your social life active because it can impact your intellectual well-being. Just be sure you’re chilling with people you can learn from.

8. IGNORE THE PRESSURE

In this era of social media and competitiveness, you may find yourself succumbing to pressure to belong, no! When you tell yourself that you don’t live with these people and you don’t know what they go through everyday because they only show you and tell you what they want to, then you’ll understand that you’re doing great in your own lane. Live your life like you got no one to impress. Take your time, make your plans, talk to God, and work on them! I see so many beautiful things on social media, I get happy for people’s wins, I see vacation pictures too, and it makes me happy, but I do not get pressured to go do mine and post! Why? Because time for that will come! For now, I’m still working. Social media sets a standard for how we should look, or what we should have to be significant. Never let yourself get into that trap, or you’ll be miserable. I’ll always tell people that there’s no first position in life!

9. CONSTANTLY CHALLENGE/PUSH YOURSELF

Do something that scares you! Damn, I am so acrophobic! But one day I took a challenge to go on canopy walk which is the longest in Africa, and the second longest in the world! This is in Lekki Conservation Centre, Lagos state. My goodness! That I didn’t die that day, I didn’t think anything was gonn’ kill me that easily again, except God! Did you see the trick? I did something I’m so scared of. Now my mind believes I can do anything! That’s exactly how it works. Please only do something you know that is safe at least. Don’t go swimming if you can’t swim! But learning how to swim even when you’re aquaphobic could do a trick on your mind, and make you feel stronger.

So guys these are ways that you can stimulate your mind. Honestly, at first when my man told me to write on this, I didn’t think it’s something anybody will enjoy reading, but when I started writing it, I enjoyed it, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading it too. Love you! xx
